Wedding Seasons

Summer is finally here, bringing with it wedding season! So many cultures have their own beautiful traditions – why not integrate a few into your special day? Traditional Indian weddings usually last for days on end... there are plenty of intricate, meaningful customs with which to fall in love!

While weddings in India will vary due by states, regions, religions and castes, there are several mainstays in Indian marital celebrations. In "pujas" or ceremonies, a Tilak is for anointing the groom’s head in preparation for marriage while Mehendi is for drawing henna on the hands and feet of the bride, also in preparation for marriage. Unlike American weddings, dressing for both bride and groom is highly significant. Brides wear red, symbolizing love and life, while grooms often wear achkans, a long, tailored jacket.
